So, we bought 10.2 acres of raw, heavly wooded, relatively  untouched land in Jan. 2025. Both still teaching an hour away.  We cleared a small section, 50′ x 50′ square  that winter and bought an out building, which would become Jerry’s shop at some point in the future. We tied the knot over Spring Break, Jerry tirned 60 in April, then he retired from teaching the end of May. Whew, what a whirlwind!

After spending 3 weeks honeymooning around the Rocky Mountains,  we started moving. The giant rv cover/ carports and garage went up right before we left on our trip, so we thought, this will be easy…pack up, drive to the property, set up and start our lives as homesteaders. What we had to learn the hard way, was to go slow. 1-2 projects at a time. As they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” I say, “You’re right, Rome was built everyday.”

So here we are, October 2025, making our homesteading dreams a reality. I’m still teaching and Jerry works on the property on days when he isn’t subbing for the local school district, because as it turns out, while teachers don’t make much, retired teachers make even less. But that’s okay, we have everything we want right here on our little 10 acre piece of Heaven.
